My name is Debra. I live in Essex, in the corner where Essex meets London, Hertfordshire and the old (where did it go?) Middlesex. I’m happily married (second time lucky!), I have four lovely kids from my first marriage, three step-daughters and four step-grandchildren.
I have been a beauty therapist and nail technician for 12 years and have been mobile for 5 years. The hours can be long but I love it, most of the time! I am now also an Independent Consultant for Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic which ties in nicely with being a beauty therapist and I’m loving that too. I also have an Etsy shop selling cake decorating tools and crafty things I make.
I’m an introverted extrovert and optimistically pessimistic or pessimistically optimistic, I don’t know, I can’t decide! I’m also terribly indecisive, I’ve always been a bit of ditherer but I am getting better, trying to force myself to go with my gut rather than over-thinking things. I’m organised but messy, a perfectionist and my own biggest critic.
I love baking and cake decorating, cooking, gardening, keeping fit, history and art, I completed a BA with the Open University a couple of years ago. I’m a book worm, I have a Kindle because it’s convenient but I love, love, love a real book, you can’t beat the smell of a new, or old for that matter, book. I’m a bit of a hoarder, especially of books!
I’m partial to the occasional glass of wine but these days I don’t drink more than the odd glass or 2 at the weekend and it doesn’t take much alcohol to make me squiffy. When we go out I have to pace myself and have been known to have a nice cup of tea while everyone else is knocking back the alcohol! I love dancing and adore ‘Strictly’, I learnt Ballroom and Latin American until I was 13 but stopped because it wasn’t ‘cool’! Sadly the closest I get to dancing these days is Zumba once a week.
As a child my parents owned a restaurant/B&B in an Essex seaside town. We lived on the premises, the restaurant kitchen was our kitchen and so began my love affair with food. It was a proper family affair, my nan and dad did the cooking, my nan was a proper old-fashioned cook and at 98 she still cooks, my grandad did the gardening and maintenance and my mum the waitressing, cleaning and everything else! Our parents were always busy and my sister and I spent a lot of the time, especially over the busy summer months, by ourselves playing in the garden or on rainy days reading, watching films and listening/dancing to our parents record collection.
I married young first time round and had my youngest child when I was 30. My second hubby and I met through an on-line dating website in 2007 and married in 2008. He is love of my life, my rock and has the patience of a Saint!
I’ve thought about writing a blog for quite a while but honestly thought no-one would be interested in anything I had to say. So I recently asked a client what she thought and she said I always had loads to talk about so to give it a try, not sure if that was a compliment or that maybe she just meant I talk too much! Anyway, I turned 50 a couple of years ago and, well, life’s too bloody short to just think about doing things. So this is me getting off my arse and putting my pen where my mouth is!
So here I am and hopefully there you are! My blog will include articles on health, wellbeing, lifestyle, fashion, beauty (of course!) and anything else I think may interest you.
Thank you for visiting my little corner of the interwebnet-thingy, I hope you enjoyed reading my ramblings and will visit me again.
Have a lovely day,
