I need a swift kick up the arse!

Since I got back from my holiday to Provence in the south France over two months ago I have been unable to get back into the healthy lifestyle I was in before I went. I used to have a green smoothie every day, I rarely ate bread or processed foods, filled up on vegetables and if I wanted something sweet I ate some fruit. I drank water and green tea and took a concoction of supplements, I went to the gym, A LOT, I enjoyed my classes and I looked forward to going to them.

At first I blamed France and the two weeks of wine, bread, cheese, cake and all the foodie loveliness I had eaten while there. Here are some examples…

I have also blamed the perimenopause of which I am in full swing but any symptoms are eased when I excercise and eat healthy and are worse when I’m being unhealthy! I also blame working late and being tired for not cooking and eating crap.

They are just excuses to ease my mind and take the blame away from me but I know that I only have myself to blame.

I have tried to be good, I really have, and I have been going to the gym as much as I can and I got an allotment two months ago and so have been doing a lot of digging. Alas I have just used this as an excuse to eat more, not more of the healthy stuff but more of the crap! I’m also not enjoying my gym classes as much at the moment and I don’t know why but is probably why I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty if I miss a session. Plus I still haven’t started the ‘couch to 5k’ I wrote about a month ago and I am very frustrated with myself. I tell myself on a regular basis that tomorrow will be the day that I start being healthy again but tomorrow comes and goes and any effort I do make is soon gone. The mad thing is I much prefer healthy food to the crap, I love salad and all veggies (hence the allotment) but I have eaten fewer salads this summer than I did last winter.

And so I am here to say ‘tomorrow I am going to start again’. I intend to get up early and start my day with lemon water and a quick yoga session to wake me up, then I will go to the gym and do a Bodypump class when I get home I will make a green smoothie. As I don’t have work tomorrow I will prepare some meals for the week ahead so I’m not tempted by the crap when I get in late on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I will also prepare lunch to take with me on the days I’m working. I am going to Zumba and Pilates on Tuesday night but will miss yoga on Wednesday and Zumba on Thursday as I’m working late both nights but instead of coming in and flopping in front of the telly I’m going to do a yoga session of my own and maybe Thursday will be the night I start the ‘couch to 5k’. On Friday I will go to Bodybalnce in the morning then my mum is coming to stay for a couple of days as I am graduating on Saturday and on Sunday I will take her home and visit my dad and nan while I’m there so the weekend will have to be non-exercise days.

Hopefully in a week or two and I’ll be back in the swing of it all.

So there you go…

Bob’s your uncle, Fanny’s your aunt, a whole week of being healthy!

Wish me luck 🙂

I need a holiday!

Sorry for my absence it’s been a mad couple of weeks. I’ve been extra busy at work because I have 2 weeks off from this Saturday and being self-employed can be a bit of a mare, trying to fit in all my clients can be hard and then having to turn down new clients is my idea of hell, especially as I don’t get holiday pay but you can’t please all of the people all of the time!

On top of the work madness 2 weeks ago I found a lump in my right breasticle, I didn’t panic as I’d had one in 2011 in exactly the same place which was a cyst. I immediately saw a Doctor who agreed it was more than likely another cyst (one of the joys of being peri-menopausal!) and yesterday I went to the Breast Clinic at the local hospital, had a mammogram and ultrasound, there were 2 cysts so the larger one was drained but the second one was tiny so was left alone.

Tuesday last week I developed cystitis (another peri-menopausal thing apparently!), so I drank cranberry juice and water like it was going out of fashion and by Saturday it had gone and I was fine…..or so I thought! So on Saturday night my eldest daughter Linzi and I did the 60k London Nightrider, it was much more pleasant than the two 100k Nightrider’s that I had done previously. Here we are at the start….

Nightrider 2015

However, I had never ached after the 100k’s (except for a saddle sore bum that is!) so when I started to feel achy on Sunday afternoon then got the shivers and slept all afternoon I thought I’d caught a bug. As the week went on the aching had slowly concentrated itself on my right ribcage and by yesterday afternoon I was in excrutiating pain and conceded that I needed to cancel clients (not something I do lightly because as self-employed of course I don’t get sick pay) and go to the Doctors. I took a sample of wee and it turns out I’ve got a kidney infection, so that’s where the cystitis went, I have antibiotics and thankfully feel much better although not yet pain free. I also have an upper lip covered in cold sores and I am in hayfever hell! For someone who is rarely, if ever, ill, this has definitely been a very bad couple of weeks 😦

Apologies I will now stop moaning about my illness woes and tell you the best thing about this week… I have work tomorrow and then early on Saturday I am off to the South of France, a little village in the hills of the Haut Var called Saint Martin de Pallieres to be precise.  Doesn’t it look lovely?  saint-martin-de-pallieresUnfortunately due to this weeks unforeseen illness I haven’t packed yet, neither have I dyed my hair, gelled my nails or painted my toenails, all of which I need to try to do when I get in from work at 9ish tomorrow night! Our Easyjet flight from Luton to Nice is at 6.10am so we have to be up at about 2.30am…..I think I may just not bother going to bed, luckily I’m one of those people that can always sleep on planes, no matter how short the flight I without fail fall asleep.

I have never before felt the need for a holiday as much as I do this one. I’ll tell you all about it when I get back. Au revoir 🙂
